CLEVA was born in a small vegan café in Ballito, Salt Rock.

At the time, I was immersed in the world of health-conscious food, serving customers who were actively seeking better choices.

Smoothies were always a popular go to. They were seen as healthy, convenient, and wholesome. But the more I worked with them, the more I realised something important.

Smoothies hadn’t really evolved. For decades, they had stayed the same, often loaded with sugar, lacking meaningful nutritional depth, and relying on the perception of health rather than delivering real, functional benefit.

When COVID hit and the café slowed down, I finally had the time to question everything.

​

What if smoothies could do more?
What if they could deliver real nourishment, not just the idea of it?
What if convenience didn’t have to come at the cost of quality?

These questions sparked a journey and I set out to reimagine what a smoothie could be, not just as a drink, but as a functional nutritional solution.

This meant going beyond taste alone. It meant creating something that could:

Over a lenghty and extended period of testing, refining, and reworking recipes, CLEVA began to take shape.
